Background
During my early years of education I was a keen artist and also enjoyed design, and at A level I excelled in furniture design and making. Following A levels, I took an Art and Design Foundation at The Surrey Institute of Art and Design, and it was then that I decided to take further my passion for furniture design and making, and apply to university.
I began my university degree course in Furniture Design and Craftsmanship in 2004. It was a three year course, and during this time I learned a great deal about the design and construction of fine furniture. I left university in 2007, with a First Class BA Hons degree.
Following my graduation, I was fortunate to be offered a position with Richard Williams Contemporary Furniture in Amersham. Here I honed my skills, learning a great deal from Richard and his team of craftsmen.
During my final year at university, and supported by my family, I began renting a workshop on a local farm, enabling me to accept some commissions, and in 2008 started my own business alongside my full time job.
In 2009 I moved from Buckinghamshire back to my home town of Horley, and began a new job with Duncan Bruce Fine Furniture, where I was pleased to gain some knowledge in the making of fitted furniture.
At the end of 2009, an influx of private work encouraged me to open the doors of my own business full time and leave my life as an employee behind. I now run my small workshop in Charlwood, making bespoke furniture to commission. I specialise in fine free standing furniture, but have made and installed fitted pieces, and even taken on bespoke joinery and restoration.
